A sequência de Ni no Kuni sendo desenvolvido para Windows e PlayStation 4. Os jogadores controlam Evan Pettiwhisker Tildrum, um jovem rei que foi usurpado de seu castelo e pretende recuperar seu reino. Enquanto os jogadores podem navegar livremente Evan em todo o mundo aberto do jogo, outros personagens podem ser controlados durante batalhas contra inimigos. Durante estas batalhas, os jogadores usam habilidades mágicas e criaturas elementares conhecidas como "Higgledies", que são usados para lançar feitiços.

O jogo começa com Roland testemunhando um míssil explodindo sobre uma cidade. Na sequência, ele desaparece e reaparece na frente de Evan em Ding Dong Dell, com sua juventude repentinamente recuperado, assim como Mausinger, o conselheiro do falecido pai de Evan, encena um golpe. Ao escapar, eles descobrem que Mausinger envenenou o rei anterior e pretende matar Evan para assumir o controle do reino. Ajudado pela governanta de Evan, Aranella, que se sacrifica por sua segurança, Evan e Roland escapam em segurança de Ding Dong Dell, com Evan prometendo a ela que ele vai estabelecer um novo reino em que todos podem ser felizes e livres. Desde então, ele é ocasionalmente abordado em seus sonhos por um garoto misterioso em torno de sua idade, que se torna seu confidente.
