O modo principal desta última edição da série Dynasty Warriors é o Story Mode, que segue as histórias dos reinos de Wei, Wu, Shu e Jin. Esta história completamente nova inclui novos episódios com personagens totalmente novos e analisa cada vez mais profundamente o drama que se desenrola no Romance dos Três Reinos em comparação com os títulos anteriores da série. Há também novos "E se?" cenários que mostram o que poderia ter acontecido se personagens famosos da época tivessem sobrevivido para lutar outro dia.
